Stephen J. Buydos, 92, of Howland Township, went peacefully to be with the Lord and reunited with his wife and other family members on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 6:21 p.m. in Community Skilled Health Care Centre in Warren following a lengthy illness.

Stephen was born on March 18, 1923 in Emeigh, Pennsylvania the son of the late Michael and Anna (Forensick) Buydos and he and his wife, Helen, resided in the Warren area since 1955.

He was a graduate of St. John’s Catholic School in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania and was employed with the Copperweld Steel Corporation in Warren until his retirement in 1984.

Stephen was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren.

Stephen enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.  He also enjoyed watching and listening to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Ohio State; as well as other various professional college and high school teams.

Stephen served his country honorably and faithfully in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre.  He was Private First Class in the 2nd Infantry Regiment, Company L, attached to the 5th Infantry Division.  He was honorably discharged on December 21, 1945.

On March 6, 1948, Stephen was united into marriage with the former Helen Louise Riddle and shared 61 years together until her passing on April 16, 2009.

His memories will be remembered and cherished by those he leaves behind; his daughters Bernadette (Tim) Laurenzi of Fowler; Helen (Frank) Terwilliger-Caputo of Cortland, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, Helen, Stephen was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter. Two grandchildren and fifteen brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 9:20 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren, where Fr. James P. Walker will offer a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the church.

Burial will take place at a later date in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

As a sign of sympathy and condolence, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Stephen’s name to the American Cancer Society 1690 W. Market St. Akron, Ohio.

The Buydos family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Community Skiller Health Care Centre.  The care Stephen received there was outstanding.  The family would also like to thank the staff of Crossroads Hospice who made his final days comfortable.
