Dr. John Suchy, 91, of Warren, entered into eternal life in the early morning of Friday, September 30, 2016 at Clark City Medical Center in Angeles City, Philippines following complications with pneumonia.

John Suchy was born on May 16, 1925 in Neffs, Ohio and was raised in Warren.  He is the youngest of four boys and three girls of the late Charles Sr. and Anastasia Hrebenak Suchy.  His father was a coal miner and his mother was a homemaker.  His parents immigrated to the United States from the former Czechoslovakia in the early 20th century and hardly spoke any English.  Neither parents completed a formal education, however they taught their children the value of hard work and education. They were members of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Warren.

John graduated with the August class of 1944 from Warren G. Harding High School.  He then enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II.  After his honorable military service, John earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the Youngstown University, a Master of Science in Education from Westminster College, a Master of Arts in Business Administration and Psychology from Columbia Pacific University, a Doctor of Education from International University in Tokyo, Japan, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia Pacific University.

Dr. Suchy’s professional career began in 1952 as an educator at Jefferson Elementary School and Harry B. Turner Junior High School.  He went on to become an associate professor at the University of Maryland and an adjunct professor at Columbia Pacific University.  As the final leg of his educational career, Dr. Suchy became an educator, guidance counselor, assistant principal, and principal for more than ten different Department of Defense Dependents Schools on U.S. bases across Japan, Germany and the Philippines.  These schools included Yokata Elementary School, Robert D. Edgren High School, Yokohama High School, The Sullivans Elementary School, American School in Japan, Chofu Campus, Bob Hope Elementary School, Bitburg Elementary School, Heidelberg Elementary School and Grissom Elementary School.  He served a total of 32 years for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools Systems, where he was responsible for the establishment of certain specific learning programs for special needs children of the U.S. military personnel stationed overseas.

John was a very humble man who enjoyed singing, traveling, skiing, golfing, socializing, watching baseball and spending time with his wife and daughter.

John will be sadly missed by his wife of 24 years, Ofelia, and their one daughter Nicole Suchy.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers Charles Jr. and Steve Suchy and Andrew Sukhey; and sisters, Marie Howard, Ann Warren and Susanne Suchey.

A time of visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, where closing prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. before leaving for the church.

A Devine Funeral Liturgy will be offered with Fr. Simeon B. Sibenik officiating at 10:00 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church following by burial with full military honors in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Lordstown.

Caring and Professional Arrangements for the Suchy family are under the direction of the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, 330-392-5691.
