Sophia Duchnak Brozier, 91, of Howland Township, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 10:58 a.m. in the Hospice House in Poland.
Sophia was born on January 5, 1925 in Bardejov, Slovakia the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Hovance Staviski and immigrated to the United States as a child.
Sophia followed in her parents footsteps. She was a hard worker and was owner and operator of Duchnak’s Market on Parkman Road for 50 years.
Sophia was a lifelong and active member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Warren which she faithfully attended and served as perohi lunch and kitchen worker, board member and was President of the Women’s Society. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling, crocheting and knitting. She enjoyed the challenges of cross word puzzles and cooking delicious meals for family and friends.
Sophia was loving, determined, full of energy, spunky and never missed a family gathering. Her family was her treasure and she desired that all of them would be devoted followers of Christ.
She will be dearly missed by her family. Most of all she will be missed by her children Diana (Gibson) Pugh of Howland Township and Mitchell (Cecile) of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren Leticia (Allen) Bontrager, Joseph (Joy) Weimer and Hillary (Tom) Chenevy and two great grandchildren Elaine and Grace Bontrager. Sophia is also survived by three siblings, Stefan Staviski of Desert Palms, CA, Irene Jeannes of Reno, NV and Rev. Peter P. (Charlotte) Staviski of Highland, Ca.
Besides her parents, Sophia was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Duchnak on November 6, 1957, whom she married in 1943 and by her second husband Ernest Brozier on July 26, 2000, whom she married in 1964 and a sister in law Margaret Staviski.
Calling hours will take place on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, where a Parastas Service will take place at 8:00 p.m. Monday.
A Funeral Service, with V. Rev. Protopresbyter Kenneth Bachofsky, D.Min officiating, will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, where the body will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
