Joan Gilronan Obituary

Joan Gilronan, 82, of Warren, entered eternal life peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 5:15 p.m. in Community Skilled Nursing Center following a brief illness.

Joan was born on November 5, 1935 in Monroe, Michigan the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes M. Harcarik Kazimer.

A 1953 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Joan received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and would go on to be a registered nurse at St. Joseph Riverside Hospital for 43 years.

Joan was a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross and Parish nurses’ ministry at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  She belonged to the Warren Western Reserve Band Booster and was a Football Mom along with being a member of many other booster while her children were in school.  She also volunteered with the girl and boy scouts.  While a resident at Community Skilled Nursing Centre, Joan had the honor of serving as President of the Resident Council.

She enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States and Canada particularly family vacations to the beach.  Joan especially enjoyed spending time with her family and supporting her grandchildren in all of their endeavors.

Joan was proud of her Slovak heritage and never missed cooking for and enjoying all of the Slovak traditions during the holidays.

She was of the Catholic faith and made her sacraments in SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and remained in that church following her marriage.  Then, along with her husband, Ron, belonged to and raised their family in the former St. Pius X Catholic Church where she was a member of its Altar & Rosary Society and was active in the church until its closing.

Joan was married on September 28, 1957 to Ronald M. “Ron” Gilronan and they were married for 50 years until his passing on November 3, 2007.  Together they shared the love of five children Jacqueline (John) Harding of Evansville, Indiana, Ronald J. (Carla) Gilronan of Champion, Richard G. (Tamara) Gilronan of Warren, Robert “Rob” J. (Jami) Gilronan of Warren, Janet Morrison who preceded her in death; grandchildren Jon and Caitlyn Harding; Paul (Jessica), Emily and Phillip Morrison, Elissa and Jordan Gilronan, Joshua Peck, Thomas and Nathan Gilronan; Matthew and Rachel Gilronan and a great grandson Ryan Morrison.  She is also survived by a son-in-law Michael (Lisa) Morrison of Garrettsville and a sister Frances Cetina of Warren.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton-SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 1234 High St. Warren with Fr. William J. Loveless officiating, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. Monday in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church.

Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

As a sign of condolence, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Joan’s name to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to offer special thanks to all of the nurses, aides and staff of Community Skilled Nursing Centre for all of the exceptional care and friendships that they gave to Joan during her stay and for allowing her final days to be very peaceful and comforting.
