Doris J (Lody) Smith

Doris J. Smith, 84, of Cortland, entered eternal life on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 8:25 am in her home under the comforting care of hospice.

Doris was born April 30, 1934 in Champion the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Veselich Lody Sr. and was a lifelong area resident.

She retired in 1996 from Trumbull Memorial Hospital where she worked form 19 years as a histology technician.  After retirement, Doris worked for Dr. Robert Brodell for 8 years as a histology technician retiring in 2010 after 14 years of service.

Doris was of the byzantine faith and a member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church where she was past president of the Ladies Guild.  She belonged to a bowling league at Echo Lanes.  Doris enjoyed doing yard work and was very crafty.  She was a wonderful cook and baker and was a collector of Gene Autry memorabilia.

She was married on March 30, 1958 to Richard L. Smith Sr. and they were married for 30 years until his untimely passing on April 27, 1989.

Doris is survived by her daughter with whom she made her home Tammy (Charles) Miles; a son in Champion; two brothers Joseph (Leda) Lody Jr. of Warren and Kenneth (Diane) Lody of Tennessee; a sister Marian McManus of Warren; three grandchildren Sarah Miles, Jacob Miles and Ricky Smith and by a great grandson Aiden Collenette.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

A caring cremation has taken place under the direction of the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home with inurnment to take place in All Souls Cemetery at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Doris’ name to the Trumbull County Dog Pound.
