John Joseph Hanick

John Joseph Hanick, 86, of Warren, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:25 pm in Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Born May 17, 1931 in Warren, Ohio, John was the son of the late John and Rose Marie Fleischer Hanick and was a lifelong area resident.

John was a 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and was of the Catholic faith.

A Veteran of the United States Army, John enlisted on Sept 20, 1949 in Canton, Ohio and took his 12 weeks of basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky with the 3^rd Armored Division 83^rd RECON Division Company B Platoon 2, when training had been cut back to 12 weeks from 18 weeks due to the Korean conflict.  He took troop training at the Fort Lawton Washington Replacement Center and in January, 1950, he left for Japan Logistical Headquarters 8^th Army Far East Command East Camp Kobe 8031st A.U. Quartermaster Det. Composite Service Co. JLC (Japan Logistical Command) on the dependence housing ship, the W.C. Shanks.  Cpl Hanick was RA-US Army during the occupation of Japan. He was a quartermaster logistical storage specialist in Kobe, Japan in support of the Inchon, invasion. He enjoyed his time overseas and spoke of it often. John was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, AOM (Japan) Occupation Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge and the expert sharpshooter rifle before being honorably discharged on January 1, 1953 at Fort Custer, Michigan.

John retired from General Motors Lordstown in 1988 as a driver for final process. He had previously worked for Standard Transformer and as a graphic artist for Kerr Sign Company.

John was a hard worker, proud veteran, autoworker, and most of all proud of his family. He cherished his wife, Helen with his selfless caretaking of her for many years, and his love for his family was evident.

John was very proficient on the computer and through the years he connected with many old army buddies, friends and family members. His love of photography led to his own webpage and his history is well documented on the internet. He enjoyed family history and collected many things.

He is survived by a son Ronald (Kimberly) Hanick of Newton Falls, two daughters Karen (Dave) Tackett and Jackie Braccini of Warren, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death on April 1, 2008 by his wife of 54 years, Helen Louise Hanick, and a brother James Hanick.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio.

An Order of Christian Burial Service will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 in the funeral home with Fr. Christopher Henyk, pastor of St. John Paul II Parish in Warren, as celebrant.

Burial will full military honors rendered by the good men of American Legion Post #540 Honor Guard will take place in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
