Regina H. Hopko, 97, of Warren, entered eternal life on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 2:07 a.m. in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home in Howland under the comforting care of hospice.
Miss Hopko was born on May 12, 1921 in Neffs, Ohio the daughter of the late Peter and Maria Czori Hopko and attended Bellaire Schools.
She worked as a battery assembler and retired from Packard Electric Company.
Miss Hopko was of the Orthodox faith and a lifetime member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Warren. She was devoted to her church and volunteered countless hours as the voice behind the sign off of “Adios” on the phone taking perohi orders for the church’s fundraiser.
She was proud of her Rusyn heritage and enjoyed playing the organ, was an accomplished accordian player and enjoyed listening to polka music. Regina enjoyed crafting, making crosses, crocheting, ribbon work and made beautiful pysanky (eggs) at Easter. She also had a passion for photography and was very talented at whistling. Regina always watched out for her neighbors and enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips. Finally, she enjoyed the sounds of Liberace, Lawrence Welk and Andre Rieu.
Memories of Regina will be carried on by her many nieces and nephews, especially her caregiver and great great nephew Nelsen Michael Thomas of Braceville.
Besides her parents, Regina was preceded in death by five brothers Peter, Michael, Alexander, Albert and Paul Hopko; and by six sisters Mary Zigler, Elizabeth Sekerak, Bertha Hopko, Mary Hopko, Anne Arambasick and Veronica Lachendro.
Family will receive friends in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren from 2:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018, where a Panachida Service will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
A Funeral Service with Very Rev. Protopresbyter Kenneth Bachofsky, D.Min officiating will take place 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018 in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, where the body will lie in state 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service Monday.
Burial will take place in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
As a sign of sympathy and condolence the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Regina’s name be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2053 North Road, NE, Warren, Ohio 44484.
