Joseph S. Roman, 95, of Warren, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in his home.
Joe was born March 5, 1923 in Conneautville, Pennsylvania the son of the late Alexander and Agatha Keller Roman and attended Warren G. Harding High School.
He enlisted into the United States Army on March 10, 1943 in Camp Perry, Ohio and served his country in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in Guam during World War II. He served with the 1989th Order Depot Company as a sharpshooter. For his service to his country, Joe was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged on March 13, 1946 at Separation Center Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
Joe was a retired millwright with Trumbull Lamp General Electric.
He was a charter member of the former St. Joseph Church on North St., Warren and attended St. Pius X Catholic Church. Joe and his late wife, Anne were members of St. John Paul II Parish in Warren. He enjoyed gardening.
Joe was married on November 24, 1949 at St. James Catholic Church in Warren to the former Anne E. Marhefky and they were married for 68 years until her passing just this past Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.
He is survived by a son Mark J. (Loretta) Roman of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Anne, Joe was preceded in death by brothers John H., Anthony J., and Leo P. Roman, sisters Helen Roman, Stella Sharick, Mary Hunt and Pauline Thomas and by three brothers who lost their lives defending our country during World War II.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren.
A Parlor Service will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Fr. Christopher Henyk, Pastor of St. John Paul II Parish officiating. Burial will follow with military honors provided by the great men of the Ellsworth VFW in St. Joseph Cemetery in Champion.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Joe’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5000 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44484.
