Roland R. Iannucci, 95, entered peacefully into eternal rest at 10:20 PM, Friday, May 13th, at his residence. He was surrounded by family as he completed the journey to join his loving wife, Ergie.

Roland was born the son of the late Zacariah and Filomena Spagnuola Iannucci, on May 2, 1921, in Warren, Ohio. He was a lifetime resident and attended local schools before joining the Army.

A veteran of World War II, Roland enlisted into the United States Army on July 10, 1942 and served abroad in the Rhineland as a medical technician with the 201st General Hospital and was a rifle marksman.  Roland was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Eastern African Middle East Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Technician 5th Grade on March 12, 1946.

After returning from overseas, Roland worked hard at several jobs to provide for his family. He retired from Copperweld after 26 and a half years.

Roland was full of stories from days gone by. Through him, his family and friends, were able to learn about the Great Depression, the days of FDR, Pearl Harbor, WWII, and what it was like to live in Warren during the past eight decades. His many travels to Italy taught his family about their heritage. He truly was a living history book!

Roland was a devout Catholic and a devoted and active lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church in Warren. Proving that age doesn’t matter, at 91 years old, he was a Confirmation sponsor for Daniel Woodley. Afterwards, Roland was included in many of the youth group gatherings as a guest. .He enjoyed watching the young people grow in the faith that he and his wife held dear.

On September 5, 1942, he was united in marriage with his sweetheart, Ergomenia Tabacco. They spent 68 years together before her death in 2010.

His memory will be cherished by the family he lives behind, daughters, Rolinda (Jim) Rhodes of Girard and Pamela L. Iannucci of Warren; sister-in-laws Jennie (Rocky) Soriano of Niles and Elisa Walush of Denver; grandchildren, Dedena C. Iannucci, Larry (Jennifer) Rhodes, Victoria Wilkinson, Rachel Rhodes, and Roland (Stacey) Rhodes; great-grandchildren: Anna, Kayla, Marc, Timothy, Robert, William, Kimberly, and Roland Jr.; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Ergomenia (Tabacco) Iannucci, a sister, Madeline Raschilla, three brothers: Anthony, Lawrence and Henry Iannucci; and three infant children; two sons and a daughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in  the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried. Burial will follow with full military honors in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.

The family requests that material contributions take the form of donations in Roland’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Teen Vision, the youth group of the Parish c/o St. Mary’s Church 232 Seneca St. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44481.
