Paul Sperko, 94, of Howland Township, entered into eternal life Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 10:28 p.m. in the Intensive Care Unit at Mercy Health St. Joseph Health Center in Warren with his family at his side following a short illness.
Paul was born on September 22, 1922 in Lockwood, Ohio the youngest son of the late Peter and Anna Figura Sperko and was a lifelong area resident.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Paul served his country aboard the USS Tuscaloosa as a Chief gunners mate during World War II.
Paul retired in 1980 after working for 33 years for Copperweld Steel where he was a foreman in the 35 inch Mill. Paul was also a carpenter by trade. His passion for carpentry allowed him to build all seven homes in which his family lived, in addition to many other homes in Warren. Paul enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Paul was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church and that is where he married the love of his life the former Virginia A. Hlaudy on April 11, 1945 and they were married for 57 years until her passing on August 29, 2002.
Paul is survived by his sons William A. (Phuong) of Yorba Linda, CA, Richard J. (Joyce) of Warren and Michael D. (Diana) of Kent; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife; Paul was preceded in death by two sons Gary Sperko in April 2010; Robert Sperko on August 9, 2010; a brother Michael Sperko in December 2013 and a sister Helen Smanko in November 1999.
Paul was kind, he was generous and he was a builder and he will be missed by many. May his memory be eternal.
Calling hours will take place TODAY, November 4, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 8:30 until 9:20 a.m. all at the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, where a Parastas Service will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
A Panachida Service will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. with Fr. Simeon B. Sibenik officiating in the funeral home. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
