Nicholas D. “Nick” Spelich, Sr., 89, of Howland Township, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 3:12 p.m. in the intensive care unit at Mercy Health St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
Nick was born on December 15, 1927 in Warren, the son of the late Joseph and Ann Pozega Spelich and was a lifelong area resident.
A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Nick owned and operated Papa Nick’s Bar on Niles Road for over 36 years retiring the business to his son, Nick in 2014. He was an avid golfer having scored 8 holes in ones and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Nick was a charter member of the former SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren, where he married the former Erma J. Krempasky and she precedes him in death.
He is survived by three sons Nicholas D. (Melanie) Spelich Jr. of Niles, Richard Spelich of Rockwell, CA and Mark S. (Sharon) Spelich of Cleveland; a niece and daughter of his heart Judy (Ken) Namish of Howland; two special nieces whom he raised Patricia and Lydia; three grandchildren; a great grandchild and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Nick was preceded in death by twin infant daughters; a son Michael R. Spelich; two grandsons Nick and Eric Spelich; two sisters Mary Russ and Ann Brdek and five brothers Frank, Joseph, Paul, George and Michael Spelich.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Craig A. McHenry officiating in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church.
Burial will follow next to his wife Erma in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
