Mary Catherine (Shaker) Friend

Mary C. Friend, 47, of Bristolville, entered into eternal life suddenly Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 7:57 p.m. in the emergency room of UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township after becoming stricken with cardiac arrest while driving home from Geauga County.

Mary was born in Warren on February 21, 1969 to Francis J. and Catherine (nee Bizyk) Shaker and was a lifelong area resident.

A 1986 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Mary obtained a Bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University and a Master Degree from Westminster College.  She was currently on leave from the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center where she was an Assessment/Secondary education teacher.

Mary enjoyed making homemade jewelry.

She was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Warren, where she was their housekeeper and cook for many years as she attended high school; a job in which “ran in the family”  for her mother, Catherine, held the position after Mary until her untimely passing in 1993.

A loving daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her husband Jeffrey “Jeff” J. Friend whom she married on August 29, 2003; her father and step mother Francis and Helen Shaker of Warren; her mother-in-law Beverly Friend of Champion; a son Timothy Allen of Warren; step daughters Lauren Friend of Vienna and Sarah Friend of Greensboro, NC; her siblings John F. (Sue) Shaker of Chardon, Joseph S. (Monica) Shaker of Warren, Michael T. (Tuya) Shaker of Warren, Alice R. Silbaugh of Warren and Teresa M. (Eric) Shaffer of Philadelphia; a sister-in-law Jonelle (Doug) Bahrey of Bristol; and numerous nieces and nephews and by a host of friends.  Mary had a special place in her heart for her pets, especially her big baby Sampson and Scruffy.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother Catherine Shaker and father-in-law John Friend.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried officiating, will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 in St. Mary’s Church, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. prior in leaving for the church.  Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Mary’s name for her love for animals be made to Angel’s for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406
