Leo Michael Nypaver, 87, of Howland Township, entered into eternal life at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home in Howland.

Mr. Nypaver was born on June 28, 1928 in German Towsnhip, Uniontown, Pennsylvania the son of the late John and Mary (Marcinko) Nypaver.

A veteran of the Merchant Marines and the United States Army, Leo served his country faithfully and honorably during World War II.  Leo served abroad in Germany as a crane operator with the 501st Engineer Company.  Upon being honorably discharged on December 23, 1948, Leo received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

After the war, Leo worked and retired in 1990 after working for 24 years as a millwright with American Welding.

Leo was a longtime and active member of St. Mary’s Church in Warren, where he served as a money counter and was a member of its St. Vincent de Paul Society.  He belonged to the Mariner’s Association with other veterans of the Merchant Marines and in his earlier years was a Ham Radio operator.  He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing.

During the war in Germany, Leo met the love of his life, who he shared 67 years of marriage, the former Elizabeth “Libby” Zeller whom he married on October 10, 1948.

Leo will be sadly missed by his wife, Libby, eight children Veronica (Werner) Wedel of Germany, Robert “Bob” (Joan) Nypaver of Williamsfield, Gregory Nypaver of Bristol Twp., Rose (James) Datesh of Bristolville, Christina (Jonathan Schiele) Nypaver of Richmond, CA, Timothy (Karen) Nypaver of Columbus, Eric Nypaver at home and Mary Beth (Brian) Townsend of Howland Township; a brother Theodore “Ted” (Loretta) Nypaver of The Villages, Florida; a sister Rita (Don) Kleinhample of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law Caryl Nypaver of Uniontown; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his brothers Edward, Daniel, Kenneth, John and James Nypaver; and sisters Mary Nypaver, Julie Dvorchak, Frances Dvorchak, Margaret Franck and an infant sister Cathryn Nypaver.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. and again on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44482.

Funeral Services will begin on Friday, April 15, 2016 with closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried officiating.

Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

The family suggests that Memorial contributions may take the form of donations in Leo’s name to the Restoration Fund of St. Mary’s Church, 232 Seneca Ave NE, Warren, Ohio 44481.
