Julia K. Bates, 89, of Massillon and a former longtime resident of Warren, passed away 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Laurels of Massillon under the comfort of hospice.
Julia was born in Warren on November 28, 1927 the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Semancik Gayan and attended Warren G. Harding High School.
During the war, Julia worked for a short time for Ohio Lamp on Dana Street in Warren. She married Clarence Bates on August 30, 1947 and together they had three children. Julia loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She always got the biggest smile spending time and sharing activities with her grandchildren and visiting with her great grandchildren. Julia enjoyed playing cards for hours and was an avid fan for the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers.
Julia was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Warren.
Julia is survived by her husband Clarence, children Paul (Sandi) of Poland, Carl of Port Saint Lucie, Fl., Paula (Tom) McGee of Massillon; grandchildren Candace, Ashley, Joseph, Robert, Marla, Linsey and Evan and nine great grandchildren; a sister Ann Firment and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Julia was preceded in death by a brother Michael Gayan and sisters Mary Kascsak, Betty Rinzella, Helen Holod and Margaret Phillips.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home.
A Devine Funeral Liturgy with Fr. Simeon B. Sibenik officiating will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 in SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Shelly and Susan and the aides at Laurels of Massillon for all of their care that they gave to Julia.
The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Julia’s name to Cross Roads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Uniontown, OH 44685.
