Obituary Image

Henry J. Magusiak of Griffin, Georgia and formerly of Warren passed away at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin, Georgia on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 1:00 a.m. at the age of 89.

Henry was born and raised in the small village of Orzechowka, Poland. He immigrated to the United States as a young boy.  Henry’s story is an extraordinary image of a hard working Polish Immigrant.  He was instrumental in teaching his family hard work ethics, strong religious values, moral values, a deep love for the United States, as well as teaching his kids Polish Traditions.

His first job was delivering papers as a child to help provide for a family income. At an early age during the depression, he worked at a grocery store and never thought of taking a scrap of food that he had not paid for.

A veteran of the United States Army, Henry served his country abroad during World War II with the 428th Quartermaster Railhead Company.  He was awarded the Army of Occupational Medal and was discharged on June 13, 1947 with the rank of Corporal.

Henry worked at numerous jobs learning skilled trades and eventually entered the hourly work force at Packard Electric, a division of General Motors. He worked his way up the corporate ladder and retired as the only Senior Engineer without a college degree.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, and the VFW. In his retirement he enjoyed wood-working, bird watching and golf. One of his most cherished memories was the hole-in-one that he made with a golf ball given to him by one of his grandchildren.

Henry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Griffin, Georgia.   As I read through one of Henry’s prayer books that he had given me a few years ago, I noticed a verse that struck me as inspirational. “The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life” (Job 33:4). This is how Henry lived his life.

Henry will be missed by all of the people that he touched during his life.

Henry is survived by his wife of 67 years the former Emily Bielecki, whom he married on May 20, 1950; his daughter and three sons, Joanne Miller of Alpharetta, GA, Michael (Wendy) Magusiak of Westlake, TX, David (Sarah) Magusiak of Griffin, GA, and Thomas (Alicia) Magusiak of Cordova, TN; four handsome grandsons, three beautiful granddaughters, two granddaughters-in-law, and one grandson-in-law.

Services were held in Georgia on Saturday, July 8, 2017 with a visitation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Social Room and a memorial Mass immediately followed.

Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, where closing prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday prior in leaving for the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating, will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in St. John Paul II Parish, 420 North Street NW, Warren.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Warren where full military honors will be rendered by the great men of the American Legion Post 540 Trumbull County Honor Guard.

In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1323 Macarthur Drive, Griffin, Ga 30224, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation 6520 N. Andrews Ave, Fr. Lauderdale, Florida 33309-2132, or Eternal Hope Hospice 123 N. 18th St., Griffin, GA 30223.
