Edward Burnick, 90, of Cortland, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 8:10 p.m. in his home.

Ed was born on September 10, 1926 in St. Michael, Pennsylvania and was a longtime resident of Cortland.

Ed with his wife Dolores, owned and operated Burnick’s TV on Route 5 in Cortland for over 34 years.  After Dolores’ passing, Ed continued to work with his son at the family business until officially retiring in 2004.

A veteran of the United States Army, Ed served his country with the 7th Geodetic Control Squadron stationed at McDill Field, Florida as a Radio Mechanic during World War II.  He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1947 and received the World War II Victory Medal.

He enjoyed bowling and visiting the casinos.

Ed was married on July 5, 1951 to the former Dolores A. Vivoda and they were married for 42 years until her passing on April 9, 1994.

Ed is survived by a son Edward L. Burnick of Cortland; son-in-law Joseph Plawky of Hermitage; seven grandchildren Edward L. Burnick, Jr., Michael Burnick, David (Lisa Smith) Burnick, Jeffrey Burnick, Daniel (Megan) Burnick, Maria Plawky and Janet (Cy) Morales; and two great grandsons James and Liam Burnick.

Besides his wife, Dolores, Ed was preceded in death by his mother Marion Walls; twin daughters Cheryl Burnick and Kathleen M. Burnick Plawky, D.D.S.; brothers John Burnick and August Shopin; a sister Virginia Burnick and an infant sister.

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home.

An Order of Christian Burial Service with Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried, pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Warren, will take place on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, if friend’s desire, memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s name to Hospice of the Valley 5000 E. Market St. #19, Warren, Ohio 44484.
