Edward Richard Brienz, Sr., 91, of Farmdale, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. in his home with his loving family by his side under the comfort of Hospice.

Mr. Brienz was born on May 8, 1924 in Youngstown the son of Lithuanian immigrants the late Walter and Vera (Borisius) Brienz.

He attended schools in Hubbard and Youngstown, graduating from Scienceville High School in 1942.  Mr. Brienz furthered his education by graduating from Youngstown College with a Bachelor Degree in Education and from Westminster College with a Master Degree in Education.

Mr. Brienz was a teacher and administrator in the Youngstown Public School System for thirty years.  After his first retirement, he served as an educational consultant to various school districts across Ohio in writing their official school board policies for effective administration of their mission.  He then went on to teach fifth grade for ten years before permanently retiring from SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic School in Warren.

He served as Fire Chief of the Johnston Township Volunteer Fire Department and taught emergency medical technician classes at Choffin and Trumbull County Vocational Schools, various fire departments and at Youngstown State University.

Mr. Brienz was a decorated United States Navy veteran of World War II; having served in four major battles that included Iwo Jima and other operations that ranged from French Indo-China (Vietnam) to the jungles of Samar.

Mr. Brienz was united to marriage on November 13, 1948 to love of his life the former Irene Turjanica and shared the love of three daughters and a son; Lynda (Allen) Grove of Farmdale; Dr. Deborah Brienz of Duncan, British Columbia; Reverend Edward R. Brienz Jr. of Youngstown; and Veronica Barker of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Edward was preceded in death by a brother Albert Breinz and a sister Matilda “Tillie” Fager.

Edward Brienz had three big interests and loves in life:  his family, his farm and teaching.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44481, where a Panakhida service will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Brienz will lie in state on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service in SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 180 Belvedere NE, Warren, Ohio 44483, when a Divine Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 11:00 a.m. with the V. Rev. Andrew J. Deskevich officiating.

Burial will follow with full military honors by the Trumbull County Honor Guard in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Lordstown.
